Ljubljana is one of the sweetest cities I’ve ever been to. Unsurprisingly, it has some very sweet design shops.
A short stroll from the main square of Ljubljana, Slovenia, you’ll find many cute and beautiful shops selling items by local and international designers.
In this Ljubljana design guide I’ll tell you about some of the best shops in the city to find beautiful designer items.
Some design shops focus on home decor and some on gifts and accessories. Some are really quite elegant and others more hipster.
I’ve been to Ljubljana twice, and on both occasions I got the impression that Slovenians have a great sense of style and are quite big on aesthetics.

Smile – Ljubljana concept store
A lovely store with a lovely sign at the entrance: “Cross this line with a smile” 🙂
It’s a well laid out store offering gadgets, jewellery, notebooks, accessories, mugs, home decor, party supplies, hand made crafts and much more.
Local Slovenian designers are featured here as well as international ones.
Fox Boutique – design shop
A unique, minimalist design shop selling a huge selection of tote bags and drawstring bags, card, mugs and other small gifts. There is also a nice tea section. You’ll find some great, original designs here.
3 Muhe – Ljubljana fair trade store
For more socially conscious shopping, head to 3Muhe. It’s a fair trade shop with some of the most original gifts around.
There’s only a small selection in the shop window, but when you step inside you’ll find it has many beautiful items.
It offers jewellery, mugs, bags (both recycled and woven), scarves, toys, musical instruments, chocolate, coffee and tea.
The fair trade concept gives manufacturers and workers a fair price for their products and better working conditions. It’s shopping for a good cause, and without compromising on quality and design.
Flat – beautiful Ljubljana design shop
This is a beautiful and a more high-end design store.
It has many home decor products like lighting and cute items for the kitchen and bathroom.
They import unique design items from around the world. You’ll also find small gadgets, jewellery, accessories, some toys and more.
Babushka
I found this shop irresistible. Its open layout is very inviting. They sell Slovenian and international hand made items that make for great souvenirs.
Ljubljana design shop
Babushka also offer beautiful stationary (especially notebooks and cards), jewellery, bags, mugs and more. Looks like items are carefully selected and the display is a real treat.
Gud – cool design shop
This design store has a hipster feel to it even more than the others.
You’ll find a lovely selection of postcards, notebooks, textiles, ceramics, plush toys, bags, mugs and more.
Again, Slovenian designers are featured alongside international artists, so it’s a good place to buy souvenirs made by locals.
Formadoma
This is a cute little shop. It has a very elegant feel, a lot of minimalist design items and stylish sophistication.
Formadoma sells mostly items for the home, like lamps, textiles, ceramics, toys and more. It’s a rather small place and it’s packed with beautiful products, many of them by Slovenian designers.
